The Hon. Paul Gerard LYNCH, MP

A letter that was recently sent to the Consul-General for United States of America By Paul Lynch

Secretary of is the Brehon Law Society of Australia.

28 May 2008

Mrs Judith Fergin
Consul-General for United States of America
Level 59, MLC Centre 19-29 Martin Place
Sydney NSW 2000

Dear Mrs Fergin

We are writing to express our concerns of the treatment within the United States of America of Pol Brennan.

Mr Brennan was detained on 27 January at a U.S immigration checkpoint, 100 miles from the Mexican border. He has now been held in detention since that time.

This situation seems, at best, absurd.

The relevant facts are these:
1.Mr Brennan entered the USA twenty four years ago. As at January this year he was living a normal life. He is a certified California building inspector and was living with his family

2.Mr Brennan escaped from Long Kesh prison having been a participant in the Irish freedom struggle. Following the Good Friday and St Andrews Agreements the English Government has ceased its extradition attempts.

3.During previous extradition proceedings he had been allowed out on bail. For a court to now regard him as a flight risk and a danger to the community seems wrong

4.Pol Brennan is a former political activist who has found a new life in the USA and poses no threat to anyone.

We look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely

PAUL LYNCH
HON SECRETARY
Brehon Law Society of Australia.
